The Rotary Club of Marysville this week delivered nine automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to Yuba County schools, as part of a regional Rotary
initiative to ensure the life-saving devices are accessible when needed to save a child in cardiac arrest.

The Rotary clubs of Marysville, Elk Grove and Arden Arcade teamed up to broadly distribute
AEDs throughout the greater Sacramento area and received supplementary funding from
Rotary International to support their cause.

“This is the kind of gift that you hope is absolutely never needed and never used,” said DeDe
Cordell, president of the Rotary Club of Marysville. “But if they ever do need it, we want to
make sure they have it or the consequences could be devastating.”

The Marysville club worked with the local school districts to determine the need, and
distributed three AEDs to Marysville High School, and one each to Lindhurst, Yuba County
Career Preparatory Carter School, Thomas E. Mathews, Virginia School, the Career Technical Center and
Spring Valley School.

“The support from the Marysville Rotary Club is invaluable and greatly enhances the safety and
well-being of our students, staff and visitors,” said Sherry Fortner, Principal at Thomas E.
Mathews.

The Marysville Rotary Foundation, in partnership with Rotary International, invested more than
$15,000 in the nine ZOLL AED Plus defibrillators for Yuba County schools purchased through
DiPietro and Associates.

Collectively, the three Rotary clubs spent more than $42,000, placing at least 18 AEDs in schools
and parks where minors play sports.
